Why two variants exist at all
The price is identical for a given duration, so the split is not about money — it is about which server-side process runs. A first-time activation provisions the license on an account that has never had one; a renewal extends or reinstates an account that already exists in the licensing system. Sending an order down the wrong path means it cannot be fulfilled automatically.
What happens if you order the wrong one
The order does not fail outright — it stops. It goes into manual review until support can confirm your account state and re-route it. That typically turns a 1–6 hour delivery into a much longer wait, depending on when you ordered and how busy the queue is.
If you realise the mistake quickly, message support with your order number straight away. Orders that have not been processed yet can usually be corrected without a new purchase.
How to check which you need
- Log in at UnlockTool.net with your account.
- Look at the account or license section for any activation history or an expiry date — past or present.
- Any history at all means renewal. A completely clean account means new activation.
- Still unsure? Send your username to support and ask before you pay. It costs nothing to check.
A note on expired licences
An expired license still counts as history. If your account was activated two years ago and has been dead ever since, you want a renewal, not a new activation — even though the account currently has no working license.
Does a renewal reset or extend my expiry date?
Ordering a renewal while a license is still running generally extends the existing expiry rather than overwriting it. If the timing matters for your workflow, confirm with support before ordering so there are no surprises.
